Featured Midlands Chapter ISACA member – Read about Mr. Christopher Poteat, a new member to the SC Midlands Chapter Board. Chris is a Senior Manager at Elliott Davis LLC.

1.  Why you were motivated to enter this profession and becomecertified?

I started off as a financial auditor and a good friend/mentor who headed the IT audit area wanted me to join his group. I'd had some IT experience but saw this as an interesting area to join. A respected colleague helped me on the mainframe side with his knowledge. I was also able to work in IT as well at another company which gave me more experience in the field. I became certified because it's needed to progress further in the industry which I wanted to do.

2.    Something about your employment and how it applies?

As senior manager at Elliot Davis, my primary duties include IT audits and reviews for medium to large public and private companies. I assist the audit staff in understanding the IT environment as well as technical matters that may arise. I also perform SAS 70 reviews  and ACL CAAT work. The most interesting situation was being able to perform penetration testing at a former client where I was using tools to "hack" into subsidiary company websites. As I was running scan, got a popup message pleading with me to stop hacking the company's website. If that was all he could do, that was a problem.

3.    Something interesting about you - hobbies, interests, etc?

I watch and play a lot of golf to the despair of my wife.
